Hey, you! Yes, you! Let me take two guesses about the person you are.
One, I think you like the idea of reading more books than you do. That’s why you clicked on this post.
Two, I think you struggle to actually read more books. That is, once again, why you clicked on this post.
Did we get it right? If we did, allow us to make a short pitch to you.
See, we’re exactly the same. We’d like to read much, much more than we can actually manage. So, last weekend, we tried a small experiment. We opened up a small space at our office and invited a bunch of people to come read with us. No frills, no tamasha. We simply let ourselves forget the world outside and sink into our books. It sounds really simple, I know. But it really worked!
People read more than they had in months. It showed. By the end, people were raring to talk about all the little nuggets that caught their fancy: from Moby Dick’s weird, dated ship-slang, to ancient Babylonian interest rates.
So, we’re doing it again. Book Club Meetup #2 is happening soon. The format remains simple:
Bring a book. Any book at all; you don’t need to read about finance.
(Or don’t bring a book. We’ll bring along some of our own favourites too!)
Find a corner.
Read.
That’s it.
If you like, you could hang around with us later if you’d like to chat about what you read, share book recommendations, or geek out about some random quote you came across. No pressure — but you might find it a lot of fun. After all, book clubs don’t draw your average boring adult who’s consumed by whether they bought the right groceries and whether the plumber will turn up on time. We’re all just a bunch of nerds who want to meet fellow nerds and gush about something cool we came across.
If that sounds like something you’d like too, you must join us! :)
That’s our pitch. We’ll be sharing the details soon. If you’re interested, sign up by filling in this form here, and we’ll send you everything you need to know.
See you!
Please start this in Mumbai as well.
